Donald Trump’s company the Trump Organization plans to build luxury hotels and resorts in Taiwan, the Shanghaiist reported on Friday. The news comes after the president-elect stunned political observers by initiating the first US-Taiwanese presidential contact since 1979, when the U.S. adopted a “One China” policy.
According to Shanghaiist:
A representative from the Trump Organization paid a visit to Taoyuan in September, expressing interest in the city’s Aerotropolis, a large-scale urban development project aimed at capitalizing on Taoyuan’s status as a transport hub for East Asia.
Trump spoke with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen on the phone and during the call he “congratulated her on her recent election and noted the close economic, political, and security ties that exist between Taiwan and the United States.” (via RAWSTORY)
Talk about conflict of interest!
Now we know why Donald Trump was running his mouth against China during the campaign. It wasn’t for American interests - he was trying to make a deal with Taiwan, which China considers a rogue state.
